Hervé PAUL

Biographie

During the early eighties, Herve Paul played guitar with Floo Flash, a French band from the south east of France who made their mark opening for U2 and REM .

Moving to Paris to launch a solo career, he starts writing songs with Kent. Then he releases his first album in 1991, “Une autre vie” (a new life), in the same time he is an A&R manager for CBS songs in France. On these Lp, a couple of songs are produced by Jeff Eyrich, producer of The Plimsouls, The Gun Club, The Blasters ...

His first single “Quand tu t’en iras” becomes a major hit in France. You can listen to it on this web site in a new version.

Another record follows in 1995, “Né en province” (Born in a Small Town), featuring four songs co-written with Marvin Etzioni (the former founder of Lone Justice, producer of Toad The Wet Sprocket, Peter Case, The Counting Crows ...), including the single "Les rêves americains" (the American international dreams ), which becomes a hit on the French independant radio network.

In 1999, this very talented songwriter is back in force with “HP”, a record which efforlessly mixes pop, country and rock. The songs shine with a rich sonority, reaching the perfect alchemy between the garage-pop-psychedelia of French 60's scene sensation, Jacques Dutronc, or Ray Davies of the Kinks, and the American west coast rock of Tom Petty. When Paul sings, his raspy voice literally bewitches us. In the French Music category, H.P. is one of the most inventive records of the year.

Now Hervé Paul works mainly as a “song doctor” , working with a lot of internationnal artists and writers as Gino Vannelli, Andrew Williams, Mark Plati, Johanna Demnker, Kitt Hain, etc ...

He’s releasing too on the beginning of 2008 “Le chemin des dames ”, a new solo folk album recorded with Steve Donnelly ( who played guitar for Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Newman ...) and Jean-Marc Butty ( Drummer for PJ Harvey, Jean-Louis Murat, Calexico, Venus ...).

You will find many other informations about this beautiful project on this web site.

In 2005 he has produced as well a tribute album to Nino Ferrer, a famous french pop singer from the 60-70’s, called « On dirait Nino » , recorded with 15 different french and belgium major artists (ULM/Universal ).
